Criminal Law
Criminal Law involves a prosecution by the Director of Public Prosecutions on behalf of the State of a person, the Defendant for an act that has been classified as a crime. In a Criminal case, prosecutors acting on behalf of the DPP initiate the suit. In Ireland, these matters are prosecuted by members of An Garda Siochána on behalf of the DPP. Where a person is before the courts charged with a particular offence and ends up been convicted of that offence, they may be incarcerated, fined or both.
